Thanksgiving Day Table Design Tips

As you prepare for delectable apple pie dishes, savory secret turkey recipes, and warmth from fluffy mashed potatoes, have you taken a step back to think about the design for your Thanksgiving table this year?

The design experts at The JDK Group have developed a few tips to assist your Thanksgiving Day design inspiration.  Give your family, friends, and loved ones one more thing to be thankful for as they gather around your beautifully designed Thanksgiving table.

Three Thanksgiving Day Design Tips From Your Design Experts at The JDK Group:

We know what you might be thinking:  “Me?  Design a table?  I’m not a designer!”  Our goal is to bring out the designer that is in each and every one of you.  These tips and photos are just to spark your inspiration and show how even you can create a stunning table design your guests will remember for many Thanksgivings to come!

1.  Invite Mother Nature to Your Table

There’s no need to spend a pretty penny on several design elements, just take a walk in your backyard!

Natural elements such as pine cones, pine tree greens, red berries, and even tree bark are a designer’s best friend.  As you can see in the sample table design below, you can create beautiful centerpieces without using any flowers.  A mix of pine greens, red berries, and feathers create a comforting rustic ambiance perfect for Thanksgiving!  Create a table runner with pine cones, wrap a piece of birch bark (available at local craft stores) around a clear vase with a floating candle, or simply attach a branch with berries to other décor elements from around your house to embrace nature’s festive beauty.

2.  Add Personal Accents
Welcome your guests to your table by name!  The personal touch of a custom name card makes guests feel special and become a part of your table design.  How fitting for this holiday!
We cut 2″ squares from the same birch bark wrap we used on our floating candle vases and simply wrote our guests’ names with a permanent marker.  The small accent of fresh greens secured around the napkin with twine was a perfect combination that related to our overall theme.

3.  Line Jumping
Your table runner and centerpieces will have the most visual impact on your table.  Utilizing the rule of threes, we chose three clear glass vases at varying heights and filled them with wine corks and pine cones.  Our fresh greens and feather arrangements provided additional height to the table’s design making the overall layout more pleasing to the eye.  To complete the center design, we used the design concept of line jumping.  Instead of keeping each vase separate, we wanted the three separate pieces to work together as one subject.  By extending some of the feathers and allowing them to literally jump over into the next arrangement, we were able to help guests’ view the three vases as one large design element.
*You can use small pieces of twine to secure the tips of the feathers to the neighboring arrangement.
